In conjunction with a Human Rights Watch report documenting continued support for the M23 militia by the Rwanda government, the U.S. government again called upon Rwanda to immediately cease its support of the M23 militia. U.S. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said "We call upon Rwanda to immediately end any support for the M23 (and) withdraw military personnel from eastern DRC."
Former President of Ireland and current UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region of Africa, Mary Robinson will be at Georgetown University this morning for the The Institute for Women, Peace and Security's Ministerial Series to discuss the "Framework for Hope: Peace, Security and Cooperation in the DRC and the Region."
On Thursday, July 25th, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will preside over a ministerial meeting of the U.N. Security Council to push for implementation of the Peace Framework for Africa's Great Lakes region.
